PAST PLANS AND STUDIES

DESTINATION DISTRICT VISION & STRATEGY, 2018

The Destination District Vision & Strategy (DDVS) is the product of a 6-month public/private collaborative planning effort undertaken simultaneously with Alliant Energy Center Campus Master planning process. The DDVS creates a 15-year vision to transform under-optimized lands between the downtown and the Beltline into a cohesive and recognizable destination district and economic catalyst for our region anchored by the Alliant Energy Center, lakefront and extensive public open spaces.

ALLIANT ENERGY CENTER, 2017

The Alliant Energy Center, Dane County’s 164-acre convening campus, is taking steps to ensure it continues to play an important role as a valuable cultural, social, and economic asset to Dane County and Greater Madison today and into the future. The 2017 Vision & Framework identified core foundations to guide future planning and implementation, including: continue to be the regions premier, multi-venue expo, convention, and event destination; create significant economic and community impact; become a more walkable, connected, and cohesive district by integrating and connecting the campus to the lake, downtown and surrounding neighborhoods; create an authentic Madison region and Wisconsin experience; become an inclusive and welcoming asset to our County’s diverse communities and cultures; and prioritize sustainability objectives. The AEC’s vision has been translated into a formal master plan that was completed in 2018.

ALLIANT ENERGY CENTER MASTER PLAN, 2018-2019

The  Alliant Energy Center Master Plan addresses and balances the desired vision for the 164-acre campus with the evolving needs of visitors, convening industry, and growing regional community. In 2019, the Alliant Energy Center Redevelopment Committee was created by resolution to provide guidance on financing and governing issues associated with the campus redevelopment as well as review of public and private investment in the Alliant Energy Center.

LAKE MONONA WATERFRONT
PRELIMINARY REPORT, 2019

The Lake Monona Waterfront-Preliminary Report is a pre-design document that will serve as a reference guide for future master plan development. The intent of this report is to identify community goals that benefit a broad spectrum of park users and convey this information in a concise format.

SOUTH MADISON PLAN, 2022

The South Madison Plan process began in Fall of 2019 when the City of Madison Planning Division began working with residents and other stakeholders to draft recommendations for the future of the South Madison area. The Guiding Principles for this Plan are based on the major themes heard from the community during the process. In addition, public input was used to formulate recommendations in the areas of economic development, equitable access and community capacity building, housing, land use, transportation, parks, and the South Park Street corridor.

THE NOLEN CENTENNIAL PROJECT, 2011

The Nolen Centennial Project was led and promoted by the civic-minded supermarket entrepreneurs Tim and Kevin Metcalfe. Digging into their own pockets, they hired Vandewalle & Associates as design and planning consultants and plumbed various stakeholders for their ideas while convening a high-powered Task Force over a two-year period.

The resulting Vision–which starts at the South Beltline and ends at Monona Terrace–has the sort of big picture thinking that has been sorely missing for this part of our community. It includes the notion of a wide, pedestrian-friendly “land bridge” over car-jammed John Nolen Drive to connect south Madison and the Alliant Center campus to Lake Monona and Law Park and to enhanced recreational venues in Olin and Turville parks.
